Superior National Forest is a 2 million acre forest in Northern MInnesota, held in what I believe is a trust by the Federal Government.
Economic gains are massive, however, when there is NO public hearing, no public statement, when the bill is fasttracked thru legislature so that it doesn't need an Environmental Impact statement, something smells foul.
Of the 6700 acres Polymet will acquire, 1200 of those are fullfledged wetlands. Not just damp ground, through and through wetland habitat. Ducks, loons, grouse, deer, moose are but a few of the species that will be directly affected.
What is disturbing to me, is that the bill was attempted to be pushed through with no ability for public input, which means that there is much more to this and much more is being gained than we are seeing or being told...but I can tell you that Polymet already owns the mineral rights to the land that they are attempting to buy.
In other words, they inconspicuously went in and bought up mineral rights a few years back, and now are railroading the bill through for their personal material profits.
