I've not seen Conan, but I think you are probably correct. To be honest, if you want to save electricity then banning the recording and broadcasting of music may reduce consumption, but equally people might just play more online games or something instead. Just as our gig adventures aren't neccessarily about the music itself, neither is the electricity and time that people choose to spend listening to music.
Surely it would be more energy efficient to walk/cycle into town to hear a bunch of people playing acoustical instruments than for each individual member of the audience to download/buy coppies of that music to play on their own sound systems at home? I guess maybe even better would be if everyone learnt to play acoustic instruments and made their own music.
