Again, this might be considered slightly off the main point of the thread, but people might find this report by David White commissioned and published by the Renewable Energy Foundation in 2004 interesting.
The author attempts to examine the CO2 emissions reducing potential of wind electricity generation in the UK. However his main arguement is that it has to be taken in the context of the ability of wind generated electricity to integrate into the National Grid. As a result it looks at the effects of integrating electricity produced by wind turbines into the National Grid as well
