I actually agree with you in many respects. At least you maintain a broader perspective than most global warming advocates. Let me remind you (if you have not followed from the beginning) that my more fringe belief (aside from my Panama Isthmus theory) is that a much more powerful solar cycle exists. One that runs in 5000 + year cycles. My basis for this lies in both modern day science and ancient Mayan archives and calendars. According to the Mayans Dec 21st, 2012 marks the end of the 4th sun and the beginning of the 5th (it also marks the end a the 13th 400 year period).
Mesoamerican Long Count Calendar
I am not buying into the doomsday hype but I do find the coincidence between the Mayan Calendar and Lonnie Thompson's research intriguing to say the least:

Something happened 5,200 years ago that was abrupt and very large-scale, explained Lonnie Thompson, professor of geological sciences at Ohio State and researcher with the Byrd Polar Research Center.

MAJOR CLIMATE CHANGE OCCURRED 5,200 YEARS AGO: EVIDENCE SUGGESTS THAT HISTORY COULD REPEAT ITSELF
The dawning of the age we live in can be defined by the event 5200 years ago. Climates shifted abruptly then, the Amazon came into existence and human civilization began to organize and grow. Some religions go so far as to imply that earth was created at this time. God giveth...
I don't know if we are quite prepared for what Mother Nature has in store for us...actually, I am certain that we are not. The forcing which most remain mired in the minutia of will cause little affect if the sun unleashes fury or goes dormant (or both in that order). Just a little fodder for thought.
