According to this site, the panels on this building are good for about 50 years and can be recycled.

Of course PV panels aren't even remotely cost-effective where line power is available. I'm pretty confident that even a diesel generator would be considerably cheaper. But it's still a new technology, and the more use it gets the faster it will develop. Projects like this are useful for that purpose.
